World Cup Football- Netting an academic goal!
Concept &Text by K.N.Sukhadan
Media around the world have raised the ball of interest to the skies. People are celebrating the “festival” raising flags and flex boards in favor of teams contesting in every nook and corner even in the remote villages of Kerala. We have to set clever traps for children and exploit their interest in the game. The following are some crude suggestions. Please go through it and refine it.
1. Giving a speech in assembly deliberately in English.
Sample.
Dear children, world cup foot ball match begins on ……… Which are the teams? Can you name them? ( Elicit names) Who are the main players? ( Elicit names) Who is your favorite player (Give options?) I am a fan of Argentina. Sreekala is a fan of Brazil.( ask and elicit answers) Your teacher will say more about it at your class.
2. Class teachers show some maps /flags. Children identify them. They say the name of the country. Let them write the name on BB or let them select the name from a list.
3. Form groups based on the countries contesting.
4. Groups may collect the pictures of the players from news papers.
5. Debate
6. Brief talk on the players.
7. Preparing profile of the players
8. Making slogans and posters.
9. Class and school wise quiz programmers.
10. Predicting the next days news paper head.( On important events)
11. Watching the video of last day’s play and giving running commentary.
12. Predicting the result of plays every day. Prize distribution for accurate prediction.
13. Display of important players (Today’s Hero) on the notice board by different groups.
14. Organizing a ceremony to congratulate winners
15. Publication of wall magazine

ReplyDeleteWhy we Indians do not have a team in Africa?
No team but dream!
when do the dreams of 100 million people get fulfilled? or don't we have any dreams at all?
Are we just destined to clap our hands when the heroes passes by?
Just hails! hail Argentina! hail Brazil!
Thanks

We're getting closer
This isnt over
The pressure is on
You feel it
But you've got it all
Believe it

Their Expectations
Go on and feed them
This is your moment
No hesitations
Today's your day
I feel it
You paved the way
Believe it
If you get down
Get up Oh oh...
When you get down
Get up eh eh...

ReplyDeleteWaka waka is passing from lip to lip and from heart to heart. Can’t we make it an academic hit? Can’t we go this way?
ReplyDelete1. Let children sing the song as they like.
2. Let them write the song.
3. Let them hear the audio of the song. Let them sense the difference if any. Individual attempt is made to edit what they have written earlier. The song can be replayed as per demand.
4. Some words or phrases may be missing. Groups attempt to rectify the defects.
5. Elicit the lines and write them on a chart.
6. Sing the song along with the audio track.
7. Sing alone
8. Cut the song into lines/phrases/words and supply the parts to individuals.(Every student gets all the lines/phrases/words)
9. Assemble the song individually.
10. Seek help within the groups and in between the groups to assemble the song.
11. Identify the theme of the song.
12. Plan for choreography.
very good idea
